It may sound silly, but to be able to be at the top of your league whether at school or at work, having a time for vacation and relaxation should be a priority and here are some reasons why:
- Health Reasons.
The constant amount of stress at work, at home, or at school poses harm to our health and overall well-being as well. Sleeplessness, being grumpy at times, being unable to eat well or intentionally skipping meals, these are signs that our body is showing us that it needs a break, but we are ignoring it. A study in the State University of New York found that men who didn’t take any vacation in five years had the highest incidence of heart disease. Also, a study from Wisconsin Medical Journal found that women who took frequent vacations were less likely to become depressed, tense, or tired. So don’t worry that you’ll lose your skills when you take up a vacation. Because when your brain is completely relaxed, it still processing the skills that you have learned so you have to give your brain some time to recover.
- Refreshed aura.
Take a real vacation outside from your work. Catch some fresh air and enjoy the open and wide space. All of this will erase out all the stress and frustrations from work and study giving you a refreshed mind and body when you go back.
- Increased productivity and avoid burnouts.
Our brain has two sides; one side is focused on tasks and reality while the others are for wandering and daydreaming. Of course, when we are faced with work, projects, assignments, exams, and deadlines only the task-focused side of our brain operates. This can lead to information overload and burn out where our brain isn’t able to process new in formations anymore. On the other hand, taking a vacation gives our brain a time to unwind and relax, worrying about nothing and provide the greatest moment for imagination and creativity. This is supported by a study done at the Centre for Creative Leadership which found out that bosses who return to work after a vacation are more focused and able to think about the better future for the company.
- Appreciate your work.
Being able to mingle with other people outside your work will make you discover how blessed you are all over the years. Because we are confined with the routine of our daily work we tend to forget that all of these are blessings to us so we need to be thankful and appreciate it.
- Improve relationships and be happy.
Being constantly stressful can lead us to be rough or grumpy with our kids even with our spouse. Taking a break from work will make us appreciate our family and will make us realize that they are the ultimate reason why we are working and they should be a top priority more than anything.
