The Complete and Only Timeshare Travel Checklist You’ll Ever Need | There are more than 200,000 timeshares in the United States: they represent a great way to take a scheduled vacation each year, and they’re a lot more personal than a hotel, to boot! Yet there’s often some confusion among new timeshare owners about what you need to pack for your timeshare vacation.
In this guide, we’re going to do away with this confusion and give you a clear travel checklist. This way, you won’t be missing anything or taking up your limited packing space with unnecessary things.
Are you ready to start prepping for your timeshare vacation? Then read on!
- Essential Paperwork
You don’t want to roll up to your timeshare and find that you’ve forgotten your paperwork. In the best-case scenario, you’ll have to explain your situation to someone on-site and have them find the paperwork themselves. In the worst-case scenario, you won’t be able to get into your timeshare at all.
So, what kind of paperwork do you need? While it varies from timeshare to timeshare, the smart traveler takes paper copies of any correspondence that you’ve had about the property, including reference numbers and any necessary agreements.
If you’re buying resale timeshare, then you may need to bring along specific documents that prove ownership.
You may also want to have digital copies on hand for ease of access.
Depending on where you’re timeshare is located, you may or may not be able to get access to a pharmacy, should you forget any medications. The best way to avoid this stressful scenario is to ensure that you pack your medications.
Pack them as soon as possible (if you have to take medication every day, consider leaving them on top of your suitcase in the days before you travel if it’s safe to do so).
If you’re going to cross a border, you may also want a note from your doctor and a copy of your prescription to show any border officials.
- Tech and Chargers
If, like most Americans, you own a smartphone, packing it is essential. If you’re a light packer, you may want to pack just your phone, but if you’re going for a longer trip, you may want to pack a tablet or laptop too.
Whatever tech you do end up packing, don’t forget to include your chargers! Many people have pulled up at their timeshare and then realized that their phone’s current battery life has to last them their whole vacation (or that they need to purchase a new charger).
- Kitchen Essentials
Depending on your timeshare, you may or may not need to pack cutlery, plates, and other essentials. If you do, then you’ll need to make sure that you bring all of these, which will take up a lot of space!
If you’re lucky enough to have a timeshare where essentials like this are provided, then you’ll still need to bring food and drink. We’d recommend packing things that travel well such as:
- Canned goods
- Cured meats and cheeses
- Ketchup and other sauces
- Jarred food
- Spices and seasonings
- Pasta and rice
Bring enough food so that you can make a nice meal on your first night, at least. The last thing you’ll want to do after traveling is head to a nearby grocery store.
- Bed Linen and Towels
Many timeshares don’t provide bed linen or towels (plus, you don’t really want to share them). Make sure that you pack these and also kitchen towels!
- Cleaning Supplies
Most timeshares will give you some soap and detergent, but it’s usually only a tiny bottle, and you’re going to need more than that to keep the place clean. We’d recommend that you bring soap, detergent for both the washing machine and dishwasher (as applicable), as well as shower gel and shampoo, etc.
You should also bring garbage bags of various sizes for the different trashcans on your property.
Does your timeshare have an internet connection? If it doesn’t and you don’t want to burn through your mobile data, then Netflix isn’t really an option. It’s time to break out some more old-fashioned entertainment!
If you want to binge-watch a TV series, then you should bring some DVD boxsets (provided, of course, that your timeshare has a DVD player). We’d also recommend bringing some classic board games that you can enjoy with other people. You may also want to bring a pack of cards!
If you’re a bookworm, then you should bring a few books and maybe a couple of magazines, too. No one wants to be bored while they’re on holiday: bring something to do during your downtime or on rainy nights.
- Other Essential Bits and Pieces
There are many little tools that you use around the home all the time, but that are easy to forget when it comes to packing for a vacation. These include little things like lighters or a pack of matches, nail clippers, a razor, a watch, sunglasses, sticky tape, a notepad and pen, a sewing kit, and more.
Think carefully about what you use around the house every week. We’re sure that you’ll miss some of these items if you don’t pack them, so take the time to think about this.
